Latest report ‘Unbroken Britain: Safest Cities Revealed’ discloses which areas of the UK are the safest, friendliest and happiest according to residents.


  • Aberdeen has been revealed as the safest city in the UK according to a new report
  • Plymouth at the heart of the West Country has been voted the UK’s second safest city
  • Sheffield residents voted their city as the unhappiest city


The updated report released this week from Provident Personal Credit titled ‘Unbroken Britain’ has disclosed the safest communities in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

As part of its bi-annual report Provident has surveyed 2000 Brits. They were asked how welcoming, friendly, polite, safe and happy residents in each city of the UK feel their community is at present, compared to that of 6 months and 1 year ago.


The report is the third release of the ‘Unbroken Britain’ report. The first report was issued in March 2016 and the second in September 2016.

Plymouth in Devon has been voted the UK’s second safest city this week. It has moved up seven places from its ninth position in September 2016.

The biggest change is Aberystwyth who topped the table as the safest city in the UK 6 months ago. Now Aberystwyth has dropped 10% into 4th position.

Wrexham has followed suit, falling 9% as the UK’s friendliest city placing it as the 6th friendliest city in the UK allowing York to be voted number 1.

Oxford has fallen 7% as the happiest city compared to 6 months ago. Now Oxford ranks second to bottom just above Sheffield.
